On August 21st Torontonians will be able to feast their shaded eyes with a rare partial eclipse. Last seen in 1979, this extraordinary sighting coined “The Great American Eclipse” will allow spectators to experience a substantial partial eclipse, with the moon covering almost 70 percent of the sun.
Toronto will host a bevy of indoor and outdoor viewing parties throughout the city in honour of this event. Mark your calendars, grab your glasses, and join in the “The Great American Eclipse!”

Solar Eclipse Viewing at the CNE
Join the University of Toronto at the CNE to view the partial solar eclipse.
10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Solar Eclipse at the Ontario Science Centre
Watch the solar eclipse at the Ontario Science Centre where The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada will give viewers a chance to watch the eclipse through specially filtered glasses and telescopes.

York University’s Solar Fair
Join in the celestial magic at York University’s Solar fair where the York University Observatory team will have individual solar glasses and solar telescopes to view the solar eclipse, as well as interactive science demonstration.
